Debt review removal assistance

Debt review removal in South Africa

Ready to plan for a car or home, but your credit report still shows debt review? Understand where you stand before you take the next step.

SA Credit Clear offers debt review removal assistance. Get help understanding your position, preparing the relevant information and following the appropriate next steps. The route depends on how you entered debt review, the stage reached and the legal requirements.

An enquiry is not a debt-review application, a cancellation instruction or confirmation that you qualify for removal. Do not stop agreed repayments while your position is being checked.

What does debt review removal mean?

People use "debt review removal" to describe different situations: completing a lawful exit, correcting an inaccurate listing, or following up when the credit record has not been updated. They are not the same process. Removing a bureau flag is not, by itself, proof that a valid debt-rearrangement agreement or order has ended.

Credit-record assistance cannot wipe out an unpaid obligation or overturn a binding order on demand. The aim is to establish the correct route and make sure the record reflects the supported position. For the wider distinction between an entry and its underlying obligation, read what clearing a credit record means.

Debt review removal is not prescribed-debt removal. A prescription question can exist alongside a separate debt-review process or order. Read what prescribed debt means and do not assume one process cancels the other.

Clearance certificates and the home-loan exception

A debt counsellor issues a clearance certificate, commonly called Form 19, when the applicable section 71 requirements are met. SA Credit Clear's website, an assessment receipt and a paid-up letter are not substitutes for that certificate.

The requirements generally involve satisfying the obligations covered by the rearrangement. A qualifying mortgage can remain outstanding where the statutory conditions are met, including no arrears on the relevant rearranged agreement, demonstrated ability to meet future payments and settlement of the other required obligations. Do not assume that a vehicle-finance balance is exempt simply because it is a longer-term loan.

Ask the responsible debt counsellor to check eligibility against the actual agreements and supporting evidence. See the section 71 amendment and the NCR's interpretation of section 71. Alleged write-offs or prescription require qualified assessment; they should not be treated as an automatic clearance instruction.

Paid up or received a certificate, but the flag is still showing?

Keep your certificate, supporting letters, submission references and the date of the credit report you checked. Ask the debt counsellor to confirm the filing outcome and investigate any rejection or mismatch rather than assuming that a sent document was accepted.

The NCR's February 2026 filing guideline sets out the CBA platform process for debt counsellors. A consumer enquiry form is not that platform and does not update the NCR or credit bureaus.

Identify exactly what remains on the report. An unresolved debt-review indicator, an account balance and retained account information can require different explanations. The route depends on the evidence and the applicable process, not on a single document alone.

For a step-by-step way to check what your report actually says and the role of your supporting documents, read our debt review status & clearance guide before deciding what to do.

What if you did not knowingly apply for debt review?

Request the application and consent records, relevant notices and an explanation from the debt counsellor on record. Preserve messages or documents that show what service was offered and what you understood. Do not assume that the absence of a handwritten signature alone settles the matter; the evidence and applicable process must be considered.

Suspected misrepresentation or an unsupported listing can be raised with the NCR. A finding and any resulting correction depend on the investigation, not simply on describing a listing as unauthorised. The NCR's notice on misrepresentations of debt review explains the importance of informed consent. You can also use the NCR's official complaints route.

How SA Credit Clear can help

Start by telling us what you need help with. You do not need to know the form number or legal terminology to make an enquiry.

We clarify your concern, explain the proposed support and identify the information needed before you decide to proceed. Depending on the agreed scope, assistance may include reviewing your information, organising documents and following up appropriate administrative steps.

Regulated debt-counselling work must be handled by a registered debt counsellor. Legal representation we arrange must be provided by an appropriately qualified legal professional. Their involvement and responsibilities will be identified in the agreed service; individual legal questions need qualified advice.

Our role and any fee will be explained before you agree to work. We do not guarantee a removal decision, issue a court order or promise finance approval. Read the debt review removal service terms for the distinction between an enquiry and a service instruction.

    What documents may help?

After we explain the purpose and appropriate way to provide information, relevant documents may include your recent credit report, notices from the debt counsellor, an applicable court or consent order, the repayment arrangement, paid-up letters and any clearance certificate. Keep complaint or submission reference numbers and relevant correspondence too.

You do not need to upload these documents to make the initial enquiry. Do not put an ID number, banking credentials, card details or detailed account information into the general form or a website-chat message. We will explain any additional authorisation and suitable document-delivery process separately. See how information for this service is handled.

Debt review removal cost and timing

There is no removal fee quoted on this page. Enquire about your situation first and obtain a written explanation of the proposed service, any professional involvement, charges and when payment can lawfully become due. A separate credit-report assessment is not a removal fee and is not required to make an enquiry.

For covered credit-record improvement or removal services, section 126A(3) prevents payment being received before the service is fully performed and requires the prescribed disclosure statement. See the NCR's debt review removal fee notice and our fee and payment terms.

You can approach your existing debt counsellor, the relevant credit bureau or the NCR directly, as appropriate. Using a private assistance service is not compulsory to exercise your rights.

How long does debt review removal take?

Timing depends on the route, complete evidence and the responsible parties. Checking eligibility, issuing or filing a certificate, investigating a disputed entry and updating a report are different stages. Applicable statutory duties still apply, but there is no universal same-day or fixed-day completion promise from SA Credit Clear. Ask which step is outstanding and how its outcome will be confirmed.

Planning for vehicle finance or a home loan afterwards

Confirm your lawful status and check the updated information before making another application. Ordinary new car or home finance is not a way to bypass an active debt-review restriction. Do not hide an existing arrangement from a lender.

After a lawful exit, approval still depends on the lender's assessment, including affordability and other credit information. Neither removal nor a clearance certificate guarantees approval, a particular score or an interest rate.

Use the vehicle-finance preparation checklist or the home-loan preparation checklist when the relevant restriction has lawfully ended. These are planning guides, not finance offers.

Ask about your debt review situation

Tell us how to contact you and what you need help with. We will explain the proposed next step and any information needed before you decide whether to proceed.

Submitting an enquiry does not appoint a debt counsellor, start or transfer debt review, authorise a credit-bureau search, cancel an arrangement or commit you to a paid service. Read our privacy notice and service terms. Any further authority or agreement is handled separately.
