FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

The advance amount is uniquely calculated for each individual who is qualified to use the service. The following amounts are currently available for prepaid electricity advances: R20, R30, and R50 (inclusive of associated service fees).

The more you use the Umhlakasi service and make advances, the more your eligibility will increase.

This is the fee charged per advance so we can give the customer access the service. The fee is only applicable if the customer chooses to take an advance. The fee is currently set at R5 per advance.

To top up your electricity meter, use any of our Umhlakasi Approved channels, including Spar, Pick n Pay, Shoprite, Checkers, Flash, Kazang, our website at saceditclear.co.za, or your banking app. Any outstanding advances will be automatically deducted from your next meter recharge. Once you’ve repaid the full outstanding advance, you’ll be eligible to take another advance.

The admin fee would have been deducted prior to offering the token.

Only one advance may be taken at a time. You will need to repay your previous advance in full before you will become eligible to take another advance.

Someone else in your household may have an outstanding advance associated with your meter. Please note that your next electricity top up will first be used to repay the outstanding Umhlakasi amounts associated with that meter. This means that older advances will be repaid first, regardless of who took the advance. All outstanding advance amounts need to be repaid before any new electricity tokens are issued.

There are two possible reasons for this: (1) You have outstanding advances that need to be repaid in full before you can take a new one; or (2) You are no longer eligible for the Umhlakasi service. This means you have not been making regular transactions with your cellphone number and are therefore no longer eligible. For more information, please refer to the question 'How do I become eligible for Umhlakasi?' This may also be due to a default on your repayment of a previous advance, meaning you are no longer eligible for the Umhlakasi service.

This may be the result of connectivity issues with municipal systems, or with the Umhlakasi service itself. For more information, please contact info@sacreditclear.co.za

This may be because your municipality has disabled the Umhlakasi service. Umhlakasi is unavailable in the following municipalities: Midvaal, Umlathuze, Breede Valley, George, Sol Plaatjies, Oudtshoorn, Overstrand, Cape Agulhas, Prestige, Prepaid World, Centlec, Witzenberg, Drakenstein, Ontec, Stellenbosch, and Syntell.
